LUSAKA, 19 August 2026 | NRPUP/Tonse Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has announced that he will formally challenge the results of Zambia’s 2026 presidential election, describing the electoral process as deeply flawed and raising serious questions about the credibility of the declared outcome.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Mundubile said his campaign had documented irregularities and inconsistencies surrounding the conduct of the election, counting of votes, transmission of results and their eventual declaration.
He said the petition would place evidence, documents, witness testimony and other material before the courts, including questions over whether polling station results were properly reconciled with constituency, provincial and national totals.
Mundubile also wants the courts to examine whether established electoral procedures were followed, whether results were lawfully transmitted and aggregated, and whether incidents of intimidation, obstruction, irregular counting or alteration of results materially affected the presidential outcome.
The opposition leader has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia, election observers, polling agents, returning officers and citizens to preserve original result forms, photographs, videos and other electoral records that could constitute evidence in the petition.
Mundubile stressed that the challenge would be pursued peacefully and strictly through constitutional and judicial channels, urging his supporters to remain calm and avoid violence or tribal and regional hostility.
“We seek neither revenge nor chaos. We seek truth, accountability and justice,” Mundubile said, adding that the dispute was bigger than his candidature and concerned whether the vote of every Zambian ultimately carries meaning.
The announcement now sets the stage for a major legal battle over the conduct and outcome of Zambia’s 2026 presidential election.
