Veteran politician and founding member of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), Prince Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika, has accused the UPND government of repeating Zambia’s historical “playbook of constitutional molestation” through what he calls a stage-managed and predetermined constitution-making process. 

Granting bond to Honourable Nakachinda would not be an act of leniency; it would be an act of justice.

Zulu called for stronger safeguards to protect institutional independence, including adequate funding, secure tenure, and transparent appointment processes for key oversight bodies. Without these measures, he warned, institutions risk becoming “instruments of patronage rather than pillars of democracy.”

“Providence has given us a fight to take up, but people are watching football,” he lamented. “We claim we want a Second Independence, yet we can’t stand up for simple matters of justice.”

The incarceration of Raphael Nakacinda, the Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general, is a troubling case of selective justice and a clear case of political convictions against leaders of the opposition political parties, especially those from the ruling party, Harry Kalaba has said.

As Zambia looks to the 2026 elections, Makebi’s message has become a rallying call for citizens who believe that leadership anchored in faith and guided by godly principles is the only path to a just, peaceful, and prosperous nation.

There is nothing to celebrate when families cannot afford a decent meal, when our youths see no future in their own country, when freedom of expression is under threat, and when those in power choose arrogance over service.
