Patriotic Front presidential aspirant Joseph Willah Mudolo has dismissed social media rumours suggesting that he “escaped” from South Africa, describing the reports as malicious propaganda aimed at distracting the public from Zambia’s real problems.
The false claims, circulated by the Zambian Watchdog, alleged that Mudolo was “trying to reach Zambia by road.” However, checks by this publication confirm that Mudolo remains in South Africa, where he has been attending to personal and business engagements.
Speaking through his media team, Mudolo described the smear as “desperate and baseless,” saying that Zambians deserve better than gossip-driven politics.
“Instead of fabricating stories about people living peacefully abroad, those in power should focus on removing the poverty, pain and frustration they have brought into people’s lives,” the statement read.
Mudolo said the nation’s conversation should be about how to rescue Zambia from the current leadership, which he described as detached from the suffering of ordinary citizens.
“What Zambia needs now is visionary leadership, not propaganda. People are struggling to afford food, fuel and basic necessities, yet those in authority are busy fabricating stories about opponents,” he said.
The businessman-turned-politician reiterated his call for unity among opposition forces and for citizens to stay focused on the greater mission of national change ahead of the 2026 elections.
