STATEMENT FROM THE ZAMBIAN DIASPORA ON THE 61ST INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

As Zambia turns 61 years old, we, the sons and daughters of this great nation living in the diaspora, join our fellow citizens in reflection rather than celebration.

This year’s independence anniversary finds our country at a painful crossroads where hope has been replaced by hardship, and the dream of freedom feels distant from the daily reality of our people. Independence was meant to bring prosperity, unity, and dignity. Yet, six decades later, Zambians are grappling with economic collapse, high cost of living, unemployment, and deep political divisions.

There is nothing to celebrate when families cannot afford a decent meal, when our youths see no future in their own country, when freedom of expression is under threat, and when those in power choose arrogance over service.

We, in the diaspora, carry Zambia in our hearts every single day. We long to see a nation that lives up to the promise of 1964 a Zambia that stands for justice, opportunity, and genuine freedom. But until that dream is restored, independence remains just a date on the calendar, not a reality in the lives of our people.

On this 61st Independence Anniversary, we call for national reflection, renewal of leadership values, and the restoration of hope for every Zambian at home and abroad.
True independence will come not through speeches, but through sincerity, accountability, and love for the people.

Happy 61st Independence Anniversary, Zambia may this be the year we wake up to rebuild the nation we deserve.

I remain,

Isaac Mulezuma Njobvu
Patriotic Zambian
