ZAMBIANS IN DIASPORA WARN SPEAKER NELLY MUTTI: THE CONSTITUTION IS NOT FOR SALE

By Brian Matambo

Zambians in the diaspora have sent a strong and unfiltered message to Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, over her decision to call a special sitting of Parliament to re-table Bill 7 and to ratify secretly appointed judges.

In furious WhatsApp discussions, PF supporters abroad condemned the Speaker for attempting to “rip and rape the Constitution” on behalf of the Executive. They accused her of acting outside the law, ignoring judicial processes, and testing the patience of Zambians.

“Madam Speaker, you are not above the law. Prison is waiting for people like Nelly Mutti,” read one of the messages. Another added: “She is in breach of the oath she swore. The Constitution has been suspended by the UPND regime.”

The diaspora group compared the Speaker’s conduct to authoritarian excesses across Africa, warning that history is unforgiving. “Kabila was sentenced to death in absentia. This should be a lesson to those sodomizing the Constitution,” one supporter noted. Others reminded her that anyone who undermines the rule of law risks eventually facing accountability, just as many former leaders have discovered when power slips away.

They pointed out that both matters on the agenda, Bill 7 and the ratification of judges, are still before the courts, yet the Speaker was pushing them through Parliament to appease President Hichilema and the UPND. “This is an abrogation of the Constitution,” they said, insisting that Mutti’s actions were deliberate and calculated despite her background as a trained lawyer.

PF supporters abroad warned that the special sitting of Parliament is nothing but an illegal attempt to shape the 2026 general elections in favour of the ruling party. “They are forcing something illegal on the people of Zambia. Madam Speaker is deliberately testing the Zambians, but our people will not be fooled,” one member said.

The diaspora made it clear that they stand ready to defend the Constitution and that anyone who violates it will be held accountable in the future. “Prison awaits. The people are watching, and this abuse of authority will not go unpunished,” they concluded.
